Presentation

For this new edition, follow the talented musicians of the ensemble "Les Traversées Baroques" in mid-seventeenth-century Germany to discover the new wave of composers from the Hanseatic League.

From the North Sea to the Baltic, the powerful Hanseatic League greatly influenced musical life and allowed the emergence of a new generation of composers, for whom education was no longer the only source of income. The nobility and the bourgeoisie of the Hanseatic region had the desire to create chapels there, and thus gave life to the musicians attached to these cities.  It differs fundamentally from the compositions of southern Germany, having undergone rich influences from outside: England for instrumental music, the Netherlands – with Jan Pieterszoon Szeelinck – for organ music, or Italy for vocal music.
